Orders & Shopping

Browse our collections, select your preferred piece, choose your size and metal type where applicable, and add to cart. Checkout is secured with SSL encryption and accepts all major payment methods. For engagement rings or custom pieces, you are welcome to contact us directly for a guided consultation before ordering.

We begin processing orders quickly to meet production timelines. If you need to make a change, contact us immediately at info@sophiajewelers.com with your order number. We will do everything possible to accommodate your request, but cannot guarantee changes once production has begun. Custom and made-to-order pieces cannot be modified once approved and in production.

In-stock orders may be cancelled within 24 hours of placement. After that window, the order will be prepared for shipment and cancellation is no longer possible — however, you may return eligible items within our 30-day return window once received. Custom and made-to-order pieces cannot be cancelled once production has begun, as they are made specifically for you.

Yes. All Sophia Jewelers orders arrive in our signature gift packaging — a keepsake box with ribbon and tissue, suitable for gifting as-is. During checkout you may include a handwritten gift message at no additional charge. If you are purchasing a surprise engagement ring, let us know and we will ensure the packaging and delivery are handled with complete discretion.

Yes. Sophia Jewelers digital gift cards are available in denominations from $50 to $2,000 and are delivered instantly by email. They never expire and can be applied to any purchase on sophiajewelers.com or in-store. Gift cards cannot be exchanged for cash.

Select "I don't know the size" at checkout and we will hold the piece at the most common size (6 for women, 9 for men) until you confirm the correct size with us — typically within 60 days. Alternatively, borrow a ring they already wear on the correct finger and bring it to us for sizing. All Sophia Jewelers rings include a complimentary first resize if the fit isn't perfect.

02

Shipping & Delivery

In-stock items are processed and shipped within 2–3 business days. Standard shipping takes 3–5 business days after dispatch. Expedited 2-day and overnight options are available at checkout. Made-to-order and custom pieces have longer production timelines — these are indicated on each product page and confirmed at checkout.

We offer complimentary fully insured shipping on all orders over $150 within the United States. Orders are shipped via FedEx or UPS with tracking provided by email at the time of dispatch. Every shipment is insured for its full retail value from the moment it leaves our hands until it is received and signed for at your door.

Yes. An adult signature is required for all jewelry shipments, without exception. This protects you — the insured value of your package requires confirmation of receipt. If you are unavailable at the time of delivery, the carrier will attempt redelivery or hold the package at a local facility for pickup. Please do not request that the carrier leave the package without a signature.

Your carrier will leave a delivery notice with instructions for redelivery scheduling or package pickup at a nearby facility. Most carriers hold packages for up to 5 business days. You can also redirect the delivery using the tracking number provided in your shipping confirmation email. If the package is returned to us undelivered, we will contact you to arrange re-shipment.

Absolutely. Enter the recipient's address as the shipping address at checkout. All packaging is discreet — our boxes do not display pricing or advertising on the exterior. If you are shipping an engagement ring or surprise gift and would like us to coordinate timing or use special discretion, note this at checkout or email us at info@sophiajewelers.com.

Yes. We ship to most countries via FedEx International Priority (2–6 business days). International orders are quoted at checkout with full shipping costs displayed before payment. Please note: the recipient is responsible for any import duties, taxes, or brokerage fees charged by the destination country. These charges vary by country and are not collected or controlled by Sophia Jewelers.

First, check with neighbors, building management, or other household members — packages are occasionally left in unexpected locations. If the package is genuinely missing, contact us within 24 hours at info@sophiajewelers.com with your order number. Because all shipments are fully insured, we will work with the carrier to investigate and resolve the situation, including replacement or refund where appropriate.

03

Returns & Exchanges

We accept returns on eligible items within 30 days of delivery. Items must be unworn, unaltered, in their original condition with all tags and packaging intact. Returns are processed for a full refund to the original payment method or as store credit at your choice. Please initiate your return through our returns portal or by emailing info@sophiajewelers.com with your order number.

The following items are not eligible for return or refund:

  • Custom-designed or made-to-order pieces
  • Engraved or personalized jewelry
  • Resized rings (resizing after delivery voids return eligibility)
  • Items showing signs of wear, damage, or alteration
  • Gift cards
  • Final sale items (marked clearly at time of purchase)

If you are unsure whether your item qualifies, contact us before initiating a return.

Email info@sophiajewelers.com with your order number and reason for return within 30 days of delivery. We will provide a prepaid, insured return shipping label by email. Package the item securely in its original packaging, attach the label, and drop off at the designated carrier location. Do not use a dropbox — all returns must be scanned at a carrier counter. Once received and inspected, refunds are processed within 5 business days.

Yes. Exchanges for a different size of the same item are processed as a complimentary first resize whenever possible — this is faster than a return and exchange cycle. For a different style, initiate a return and place a new order. Store credit issued through the return process never expires and can be applied to any future purchase on sophiajewelers.com or in-store.

Once your return is received and inspected (typically 1–2 business days after arrival), refunds are processed within 5 business days. The time for the refund to appear in your account depends on your payment method and bank — typically 3–7 additional business days for credit cards, and 1–3 business days for store credit.

Contact us immediately — within 24 hours of receiving the package — at info@sophiajewelers.com. Include photographs of the item and the packaging. Because all shipments are fully insured, we will arrange a replacement or full refund at no cost to you. Do not discard the original packaging, as it may be needed for the insurance claim.

Warranty & Repairs

All Sophia Jewelers jewelry is backed by a limited lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects. This covers loose or missing pavé stones (under 0.10ct), loose prongs, broken clasps, and chain defects resulting from our craftsmanship — not from wear or misuse. The warranty requires a professional inspection every 12 months to remain active. Bring your piece in or contact us to arrange a mail-in inspection.

The following are considered normal wear and are not covered:

  • Scratches, scuffs, and surface marks on metal
  • Bent, misshapen, or thinned bands from daily wear
  • Stretched or kinked chains
  • Cracked or chipped stones resulting from impact
  • Lost or stolen items
  • Damage resulting from chemical exposure, improper cleaning, or negligence
  • Repairs performed by a third-party jeweler (third-party work voids the warranty)

Yes. We welcome pieces from any source — including vintage, antique, inherited, and pieces purchased elsewhere. Every piece receives the same care and attention regardless of origin. Bring it in or contact us for an assessment. We will examine the piece and provide a clear scope of work and estimate before any repair begins.

Most standard repairs — prong retipping, clasp replacement, chain soldering, rhodium replating — are completed within 5–7 business days. More complex work, such as stone replacement, structural restoration, or heirloom rebuilds, may take 2–4 weeks depending on scope and stone sourcing. We will always confirm a timeline with you before work begins and keep you updated at each milestone.

Resizing performed by us does not affect your warranty. Resizing performed by a third-party jeweler will void the Sophia Jewelers warranty on that piece. If you need a resize, bring your piece to us — we offer a complimentary first resize on all rings purchased from our collection, and professional resizing at a reasonable fee for subsequent adjustments or non-purchased pieces.

Email info@sophiajewelers.com with your order number, a description of the issue, and clear photographs of the piece. For urgent matters — a loose stone, a prong that catches on fabric — note this and we will prioritize your case. Once assessed, we will provide a prepaid shipping label for mail-in service or schedule an in-store appointment.

Diamonds & Gemstones

The 4 Cs are the universal system for evaluating diamond quality, established by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA):

  • Cut — The quality of the diamond's facets and proportions. Cut has the greatest impact on brilliance and sparkle. An excellent cut makes a diamond truly come alive.
  • Color — Graded D (colorless) to Z (light yellow). Colorless diamonds (D–F) are the rarest; near-colorless (G–J) are virtually indistinguishable to the naked eye and offer exceptional value.
  • Clarity — Measures internal inclusions and surface blemishes on a scale from Flawless to Included. Most inclusions are invisible to the naked eye — VS2 and SI1 grades offer excellent clarity at better value.
  • Carat — The weight of the diamond (1 carat = 0.2 grams). Carat affects size, but cut, color, and clarity determine how beautiful that size appears.

Our team is happy to walk you through prioritizing the 4 Cs for your budget and style goals. Cut first — always.

Both are real diamonds — chemically, physically, and optically identical. The difference is origin: natural diamonds formed over billions of years beneath the earth's surface and are mined. Lab-grown diamonds are created in a controlled environment over weeks using the same carbon-based process, resulting in the same crystal structure, hardness, and brilliance. Lab-grown diamonds typically cost 60–80% less than natural diamonds of the same specifications. We carry both — the right choice depends on your values, preferences, and budget.

Yes. All natural diamonds we source are compliant with the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme, the international standard ensuring diamonds are not used to finance armed conflict. We work exclusively with suppliers who guarantee conflict-free origin and provide full documentation on request. For customers with deeper ethical concerns about the diamond supply chain, we are happy to discuss lab-grown alternatives, which are conflict-free by origin.

Natural diamonds 0.50ct and above come with a grading report from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) or the International Gemological Institute (IGI). Lab-grown diamonds are certified by IGI, which specializes in lab-grown grading. These certificates confirm the diamond's 4 Cs and are the industry standard for quality assurance. Certificates are included with your purchase and are essential for insurance purposes.

Shape refers to the outline of the diamond — round, oval, cushion, princess, emerald, pear, marquise, radiant, asscher, and heart are the most common. Cut refers to the quality of faceting, proportions, and finish within a given shape. A round brilliant diamond, for example, can be graded Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, or Poor in cut — and this quality grade is the single largest driver of sparkle. Always prioritize cut grade over size when choosing a diamond.

Many gemstones are routinely treated to enhance their color or clarity — heat treatment of sapphires and rubies, oiling of emeralds, and fracture filling are common industry practices. Treatments are not inherently negative, but they do affect care requirements and, in some cases, value. We disclose all known treatments for every gemstone we sell. If you would like an untreated stone, let us know and we will source one with appropriate documentation.

Yes. We work with customer-supplied stones for custom settings regularly, including family heirloom diamonds and gemstones. Bring the stone in or ship it to us insured for an assessment — we will examine it, confirm its dimensions and condition, and advise on suitable setting styles. We will always be honest about whether a stone is suitable for a given design before any work begins.

06

Ring Sizing

The most accurate method is an in-person sizing at our boutique using professional ring sizers — this takes about two minutes and accounts for knuckle size and comfort preference. At home, wrap a thin strip of paper around the base of your finger, mark where it overlaps, measure the length in millimeters, and divide by 3.14 to find your diameter. Match to our ring size chart. When between two sizes, always choose the larger one.

Measure at the end of the day when your fingers are at their largest — they swell slightly from warmth and activity throughout the day. Avoid measuring when your hands are cold or immediately after exercise. Room temperature hands give the most accurate reading. Measure the specific finger and hand you plan to wear the ring on, as sizes differ between hands and fingers.

Always size up. A ring that runs slightly large is comfortable and easy to wear; a ring that is too tight is uncomfortable and can be difficult to remove. For wide bands (6mm or more), size up an additional half-size as wide bands sit tighter than thin bands at the same size. Our first resize is complimentary if the fit turns out to be off.

Most rings can be resized up or down by 1–2 sizes. Styles that cannot be resized — or have very limited resizing — include full eternity bands (where stones run completely around the band), channel-set styles with stones throughout the band, and certain alternative metals (tungsten, ceramic). We will always confirm resize options for a specific style before you purchase if this is a concern.

Yes. We offer one complimentary resize on all rings purchased from Sophia Jewelers, within 60 days of purchase. Subsequent resizes are available at a professional service fee. Resizing performed by a third-party jeweler voids the Sophia Jewelers warranty — if you need a resize after your initial complimentary adjustment, please bring the piece to us.

Often, yes. Your dominant hand tends to be slightly larger due to muscle use and circulation. Always measure the specific finger and hand the ring will be worn on — not the other hand. If you are shopping for someone else, ask which hand they plan to wear the ring on before measuring or estimating.

07

Metals & Materials

Karat indicates gold purity. 14K gold is 58.3% pure gold; 18K is 75% pure gold. 18K has a richer, deeper color and is the preferred choice for fine jewelry and engagement rings worldwide. 14K is slightly harder and more durable due to its higher alloy content, making it well-suited for everyday pieces. Both are genuine fine jewelry — the choice depends on your lifestyle, look, and budget. 18K costs slightly more due to higher gold content.

White gold is yellow gold alloyed with white metals (palladium, nickel) then plated with rhodium — a bright white precious metal — to achieve its signature cool, mirror-like finish. Over time, the rhodium plating wears away (typically every 1–2 years with daily wear) and the piece may show a slightly warm tone where the base gold is exposed. Rhodium replating is a fast, affordable service that completely restores the original finish. We offer replating as a standard service.

Both appear similar in tone but differ significantly in composition, weight, and care. Platinum is a naturally white precious metal — it requires no plating and maintains its color permanently. It is denser and heavier than gold, hypoallergenic, and the most durable metal for fine jewelry. White gold is lighter, slightly less expensive, and requires periodic rhodium replating. For engagement rings intended for lifelong daily wear, many customers prefer platinum for its permanence. Both are excellent — the right choice depends on your priorities.

All fine jewelry is stamped with its metal purity marking. Common stamps include: 14K or 585 (14 karat gold, 58.5% pure), 18K or 750 (18 karat gold, 75% pure), PT950 or PLAT (platinum, 95% pure), and 925 (sterling silver, 92.5% pure). These hallmarks are a legal guarantee of metal content and are required on all fine jewelry sold in the United States.

Yes. Where possible, we source recycled gold and platinum for our collections. Recycled precious metals are chemically identical to newly mined metals and require no compromise in quality. Using recycled materials reduces demand for new mining and its associated environmental and social impact. If the ethical sourcing of your jewelry's metal is important to you, please ask — we are happy to confirm and document the materials in your specific piece.

08

Custom & Engraving

Yes. Custom design is one of our most meaningful services. You share your vision, budget, and any inspiration — we refine the design together, produce a 3D CAD rendering for your approval, then craft the piece in our studio. You are involved and informed at every step. Custom pieces are not necessarily more expensive than ready-made jewelry — cost depends on materials and complexity. Contact us at info@sophiajewelers.com or visit in-store to begin.

Most custom pieces take 3–6 weeks from final design approval to completion, depending on complexity and stone sourcing. The typical process: consultation → design development (1–2 weeks) → CAD/wax review → production (2–3 weeks) → finishing and quality check. If you have a specific date — a proposal, anniversary, birthday — tell us at the outset and we will structure the timeline accordingly. Rush production is possible for some designs.

Yes — and this is one of our favorite ways to work. Resetting a grandmother's diamond into a new design, incorporating a sapphire from a beloved piece, or melting down old gold to use in a new setting: these are all possibilities we explore with you. We will assess the stone or metal first and advise honestly on suitability, condition, and what designs it supports. Heirloom work requires extra care and documentation — we handle it with the reverence it deserves.

Custom pieces are not eligible for return or refund, as they are made specifically for you. Because of this, we build multiple approval checkpoints into the process — design concepts, CAD models, and material confirmation — to ensure you love the result before production begins. If something is not right due to our craftsmanship, we will correct or remake it. Your satisfaction with the final piece is non-negotiable for us.

Yes. We offer hand and machine engraving in script, block, and custom lettering styles. Engraving is available on rings, pendants, bracelets, lockets, and most flat-surface jewelry. Common engravings include dates, initials, names, coordinates, and short phrases. Engraved pieces are not eligible for return. Add engraving at checkout or contact us after your order is placed to discuss options for your specific piece.

A proposal setting is a simple, beautiful solitaire ring used for the proposal moment — allowing you to design the final ring together with your partner afterward. This is an increasingly popular choice when timing is important but you want your partner involved in choosing their forever ring. We offer proposal settings in gold and platinum from our in-stock collection. Contact us and we will guide you to the right option.

09

Payment & Financing

We accept all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover), PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Shop Pay. For wire transfers on orders above $5,000, please contact us directly — we offer a 2% courtesy discount on wire transfer payments. All transactions are secured with SSL encryption and processed through Shopify's certified payment infrastructure.

Yes. We offer financing through Shop Pay Installments — pay in 4 interest-free installments or spread payments over 12 months. Financing is available at checkout for eligible orders and is subject to credit approval. Monthly payment estimates are shown on product pages. For larger custom orders, contact us to discuss a payment plan tailored to your timeline.

Sales tax is applied in accordance with applicable state and local tax laws based on your shipping address. The applicable tax amount is calculated and displayed at checkout before you complete your purchase. International orders may be subject to import duties and VAT charged by the destination country — these are the responsibility of the recipient and are not collected by Sophia Jewelers.

Yes. Sophia Jewelers uses Shopify's PCI-DSS Level 1 compliant payment processing — the highest level of payment security certification available. We never store credit card numbers or CVV codes. All transactions are encrypted with SSL/TLS. If you have concerns about payment security, you are also welcome to use PayPal, Apple Pay, or Google Pay, which add an additional layer of payment isolation.

Yes. We offer interest-free layaway on purchases above $500. A 25% deposit holds your piece for up to 90 days while you pay the balance in installments. The piece ships once the balance is paid in full. Contact info@sophiajewelers.com to set up a layaway plan with your preferred payment schedule.

Ethics & Sourcing

The Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) is an international framework established in 2003 requiring participating countries to certify that diamond exports are free from conflict financing. All of our natural diamonds are Kimberley Process compliant. However, we acknowledge that the Kimberley Process has limitations — it addresses conflict diamonds specifically, but does not cover all aspects of ethical mining (labor conditions, environmental impact). For customers seeking broader ethical assurances, we recommend lab-grown diamonds, which eliminate supply chain concerns entirely.

Yes. We carry a curated selection of lab-grown diamonds across all major shapes and sizes, certified by IGI. Lab-grown diamonds are chemically and physically identical to mined diamonds — they have the same hardness (10 on the Mohs scale), the same refractive index, and the same brilliance. They are not simulants (cubic zirconia and moissanite are different materials). Lab-grown diamonds typically cost 60–80% less than natural diamonds of equivalent quality, allowing for a significantly larger or higher-grade stone at the same budget.

We source gemstones through long-established relationships with trusted suppliers who prioritize responsible mining and fair labor practices. Sapphires are sourced primarily from Sri Lanka and Montana; rubies from Mozambique and Burma (with full documentation); emeralds from Colombia. We disclose known origins and treatments for each stone. If origin is important to your purchase, ask us — we will provide whatever documentation our supplier has made available.

We take our environmental responsibility seriously. Our commitments include: sourcing recycled precious metals where available, offering lab-grown diamond alternatives, using minimal and recyclable packaging, and working toward carbon-neutral shipping. Fine jewelry, by its nature, is a durable, long-lasting product — a well-made piece worn for generations is inherently more sustainable than fashion jewelry replaced seasonally. We are continuously evaluating where we can do better.

11

Jewelry Care

For pieces worn daily — engagement rings, everyday earrings, stacked rings — a gentle clean once a week maintains brilliance. Use warm water, a drop of mild dish soap, and a soft toothbrush. Rinse thoroughly, pat dry, and allow to air dry before storing. For pieces worn occasionally, clean before each wear and before storing long-term. See our full Care & Repair guide for detailed instructions by metal and stone type.

We recommend a professional inspection every 12 months for pieces worn daily, and every 2 years for occasional pieces. Annual inspections check prong integrity, stone security, clasp function, and overall structural condition — catching small issues before they become costly ones. Annual inspection is also required to keep your Sophia Jewelers warranty active. Bring your pieces in or mail them to us for inspection at no charge.

The most common jewelry mistakes to avoid:

  • Exposing to chlorine, bleach, or pool water — degrades gold alloys
  • Applying hand sanitizer while wearing rings — alcohol dulls stones and dries pearls
  • Sleeping in delicate chains or earrings — stress on clasps and settings
  • Using toothpaste or baking soda to clean — both are too abrasive
  • Storing pieces tangled together — diamonds scratch every other stone and metal
  • Ignoring a loose stone or snagging prong — small issues escalate quickly

Store each piece separately in a soft pouch or lined compartment — diamonds scratch every other gemstone and even scratch other diamonds. Keep chains hanging or laid flat to prevent kinking. Store pearls in a soft cloth pouch (never airtight containers — they need slight humidity). Keep all jewelry away from direct sunlight, heat, and humidity. For silver, store in anti-tarnish pouches or with anti-tarnish strips. Visit our full Care & Repair guide for complete storage guidance by material.

Yes. We provide written appraisals for insurance, estate, and resale purposes. Appraisals include a full description of the piece, materials, gemstone specifications, and current replacement value. Insurance appraisals are typically valued at retail replacement cost. We recommend updating appraisals every 3–5 years, as precious metal and gemstone values fluctuate. Contact info@sophiajewelers.com or visit in-store to schedule an appraisal appointment.
